Each January 6 to 8, the village of Kali Vrisi fills with the bell-clad Babougera. Men in goat-skin costumes parade and roar through the streets, building to a satirical, almost Dionysian mock wedding, in a centuries-old rite of fertility and renewal that has become the village's emblem.

A centuries-old fertility and renewal ritual, the Babougera has come to symbolize Kali Vrisi’s identity. The tradition, linked to an ancient temple of Dionysus found nearby, was embraced by the community and recorded in Greece’s intangible cultural heritage registry.
