Regarded as an emblematic expression of Sabugal community identity, the Capeia Arraiana unites residents and diasporic returnees each summer. It was the first tradition inscribed on Portugal’s Intangible Cultural Heritage inventory (2011) and serves as a communal rite linking generations to their borderland "raia" roots. The Capeia is celebrated in about a dozen villages (sixteen earlier) of Sabugal, each aligning the bullfight with its annual saint’s day...
