Each late May, the village of Agia Eleni near Serres keeps the Anastenaria for Saints Constantine and Helen. Over three days the faithful walk barefoot across glowing embers carrying icons, in a celebration brought by Thracian Greek refugees and rooted in deep ritual devotion.
