Each summer, the village of Korytárky, in Slovakia's Podpoľanie region, hosts a national gathering of players of the fujara, the long shepherd's flute. Performers fill the rural air with the deep, breathy sound of an instrument so distinctive that UNESCO lists it as a treasure of human heritage.
