Each July 13, officials of the Roncal valley meet their French neighbors at the Piedra de San Martín to renew an old peace. Three prize cows are handed over as the centuries-old grazing treaty is sealed again, in a celebration that has kept the peace between the valleys since 1375.
Watch as the local mayor and French co-representative witness a vet inspect cattle. They then kneel hands together and recite the age-old verse 'pax avant' to affirm peace. Afterwards, communal songs are sung.
