Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Fortress
One of the best-preserved medieval fortresses in Ukraine, spanning 13th-15th century construction with significant Ottoman-era additions. Now a museum-reserve (КП 'Фортеця'), its walls and towers carry Ottoman inscriptions and show Genoese, Moldavian, and Ottoman construction layers. The Akkerman Fortress Project (University of Toronto) has revealed that Ottoman contributions were far greater than previously assumed. The fortress hosts cultural events and is the most visited heritage site in southern Ukraine outside Odessa.
