Borgo Maggiore
Historically called Mercatale (market place), this castello at the foot of Mount Titano has hosted a weekly market since 1243 — the oldest continuously operating market rhythm in the Republic. It is also the starting point of the Saint Agatha procession (5 February), where the saint's effigy begins its journey up to the Basilica. The cableway from Borgo Maggiore to Città di San Marino follows the ancient processional and trade route. The dialect name Bórg or Bòurg encodes this market identity.
