Cologne Praetorium (Roman Governor's Palace)
The Praetorium was the official residence of the Roman governor of Lower Germania, constructed around the time of Christ beneath what is now Cologne's city center. Its excavated foundations make the Roman administrative and military presence directly legible on-site. The site also sits beneath the later medieval Jewish quarter (Judengasse), layering two significant historical periods.
