Abbey of Fontevraud
Founded in 1101 by Robert d'Arbrissel, Fontevraud became one of the largest monastic complexes in Europe and the burial place of the Plantagenet dynasty (Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard the Lionheart). Today it hosts concerts, exhibitions, night-time tours, and a modern art museum, making it a living cultural institution rather than a static ruin. Its double order (male and female) and its Plantagenet tombs make it a key anchor for both spiritual and political heritage.
