Nonnberg Abbey
Founded around 714 by St. Rupert with his niece St. Erentrudis as first abbess, Nonnberg is the oldest continuously operated women's convent in the German-speaking world. The Benedictine nuns maintain unbroken liturgical observance connecting directly to the early medieval period. The abbey preserves medieval charters and a Gothic art collection. Its position on the Mönchsberg above the city makes it both a spiritual anchor and a visual landmark.
