The Prishtina International Theatre Festival (PITF) is an annual May festival showcasing theatre productions from Kosovo and around the world. Held primarily at AAB’s Faruk Begolli Theatre in the capital, it features a competition and non-competitive program of plays by local and international troupes. The week-long festival includes an opening ceremony, workshops, panel discussions, and an awards ceremony. Audience members experience diverse dramatic works, from Serbian and Albanian classics to modern experimental theatre. PITF fosters cross-cultural collaboration in performing arts and provides a platform for new voices in the Balkans theatre community.
Established in 2017 at AAB College Pristina, PITF honors the late actress Burbuqe Berisha and aims to strengthen Pristina’s role as a regional cultural hub. It brings together local theatre practitioners and guest ensembles (from Europe and neighboring countries) to expose Kosovar audiences to international theatre trends. The festival has become part of Pristina’s creative scene, reflecting the city’s artistic revival post-1999.
