“Ditët e Shqiptarit” is a new annual cultural festival in Gjakova celebrating Albanian heritage. Over two successive weekends in summer, the city hosts concerts, folk performances, film screenings, poetry readings, and traditional food events that honor Albanian traditions. The festival’s program includes well-known Albanian artists, music groups, and local crafts. Tourists and locals gather in the Old Bazaar (Çarshia) and central parks to enjoy live Albanian rock, pop, and folk folklore. The event is designed as a broad cultural showcase: the first edition in 2024 featured multiple performers (Jericho Band, Shpat Deda, etc.) and open-air stages, turning Gjakova into a hub of Albanian arts.
Gjakova has historically been a center of Albanian culture. Ditët e Shqiptarit (Days of the Albanian) was founded by the Gjakova Foundation to promote Albanian identity and connect diaspora and local communities. The festival’s motto reflects national pride (‘Kultura shqiptare festohet n’Gjakovë’). It takes place in traditional settings like the Old Bazaar and Ali Podrimja Park to emphasize local heritage, and it coincides with patriotic holidays to reinforce cultural identity.
