The Ethno Festival Hrastnik is an annual folkloric event organized by the local Serbian Cultural Association (SKD Sava) in Hrastnik. For example, the 19th edition took place in June 2022, featuring Serbian folk dance and music ensembles from Slovenia and the region 1. The festival showcases traditional folk music, dance, and costume from Serbia and other Balkan communities, highlighting the heritage of the Serbian minority in the local mining town.
Hrastnik has a substantial Serbian community due to historic migration of miners. The Etno Festival provides cultural insight into this community’s traditions, bringing in folklore ensembles and choral groups. It is one of few local events dedicated to Balkan ethnic culture within Slovenia.
