Festival solzic is an annual cross-border cultural celebration honoring the heritage and natural beauty of the Carinthia (Koroška) region. Founded in 2014 in Kotlje (Ravne na Koroškem), it presents literary events inspired by the Prežih story "Solzice" and nature-themed traditions (water, air, earth, wood, fire) 1 2. Each year the festival unfolds over several days at venues across Slovenian and Austrian Carinthia, featuring local folklore, literary readings, music, and communal nature activities. It connects communities on both sides of the Karawanks Mountains and highlights Koroška's unique identity, with events at Železna Kapla (Austria), Jezersko, and Črna na Koroškem in 2025 3. The festival emphasizes local culture and environment, offering visitors insight into Koroška’s traditions and scenic landscapes.
Festival solzic was created to pay tribute to the Koroška region and its heritage. Its name ("solzice" or lily-of-the-valley) and inspiration come from a local literary figure (the Prežih Voranc story). The festival program honors both the "words" of Prežih and the elements of nature, reflecting the historical connection of the community to the Karawanks and the legacy of the former Duchy of Carinthia 1 2. It is rooted in post-independence identity-building: organized by the Solzice Ravne Society since 2014 under Uršlja Gora, it has since expanded into a tri-national Carinthian event involving Slovenia, Austria, and historic Carinthia, highlighting local traditions in music, literature and nature conservation 1 2.
