Argonavtski festival is a multi-day cultural festival held in Vrhnika every June, celebrating the legend of Jason and the Argonauts as part of the town’s heritage. The 2024 edition (30th) ran June 13–16, featuring an opening ceremony with fire-lighting, local food and craft fairs, obstacle runs (Argotlon), and concerts 1 2. Traditional Greek motifs (the Argo ship) are referenced; Vrhnika’s coat of arms is the Argo. The festival includes music, sports, and communal events that highlight Vrhnika’s history and community spirit.
Vrhnika lies at what was the end of the Roman road from Aquileia, and it has long linked waterways. The legend of the Argonauts, who supposedly transported the ship Argo through Vrhnika on their way home, is part of local folklore. The festival honors this myth and Vrhnika’s identity as a historic crossroads between land and water routes 1 2.
