Jokkmokks marknad is a centuries-old (since 1606) annual winter market and cultural gathering in Jokkmokk, Swedish Lapland 1 2. Held over the first weekend of February, it is rooted in Sámi tradition and includes craft fairs, indigenous music, reindeer races, and a famed reindeer procession (Renrajden) through town 1 3. Market stalls sell local handicrafts, food and souvenirs, while Sámi people gather to celebrate their heritage. It's one of northern Sweden's most iconic cultural events, drawing visitors from around the world to experience traditional Lappish culture in full winter conditions.
Originally a trading meeting for northern peoples, the Jokkmokk Market today showcases Sámi art (duodji), music, and traditions. The entire community participates, offering a unique glimpse into Sámi life. During the festival, the town center becomes a marketplace, and the festival week includes concerts and exhibitions at the nearby Ájtte museum and cultural center. It is deeply woven into the Sámi national day celebrations (February 6) as well.
