Storsjöyran (often just 'Yran') is an annual two-day music and cultural festival held in Östersund in early August 1. Established in 1983, it is one of Scandinavia’s largest urban festivals 2. The festival features a mix of Swedish and international pop, rock and folk artists (past headliners include Veronica Maggio and Laleh), and is famous for its 'Midsummer Yra Confucius' procession and local flair. Yran attracts tens of thousands of attendees who celebrate under the midnight sun, and it has become a central event in Östersund’s urban identity 2.

Storsjöyran leverages the region’s midnight-sun tourism, blending modern pop culture with Jämtland’s local pride. It contributes to the city’s image as Sweden’s northern 'live music capital' and was launched to complement Östersund’s Jamtish cultural renaissance. The festival week (Yranveckan) includes many free events across the town, embedding it as much more than a concert series but a community celebration.
