Klobásafest is an annual sausage festival in Bački Petrovac that celebrates kulen, a traditional spicy pork sausage of Vojvodina. First held in 2016 during the pig slaughter season, it quickly became one of the municipality’s most popular events 1. Over a two-day weekend in February, the town hosts international kulen contests and tasting competitions. Visitors can sample homemade sausages, meats and local specialties while enjoying folk music and dance from the Slovak-majority community. Although gastronomic in nature, Klobásafest commemorates the old craft of sausage-making born of rural farm life and communal pig-killing traditions 1.
Bački Petrovac is known for its strong Slovak heritage within Vojvodina. Traditional pig slaughter (svinjokolj) in winter was a major communal event where families made kulen and other cured meats. Klobásafest revives this tradition by turning it into a public celebration. It reinforces local identity by featuring Slovak folk costumes, music, and recipes passed down through generations. The festival underscores how seasonal food production (smoked meats, sauerkraut) connects community members with their agrarian past.
