The Dragačevski Sabor Trubača (Guča Trumpet Festival) is Serbia’s most famous folk music festival. Held annually in the village of Guča in August, it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors for four days of trumpet orchestras, folk dancing and food. According to tradition, trumpet music in Guča began in 1831 under Prince Miloš Obrenović 1. Today brass bands in traditional costume compete on stage, with attendees dancing kolo (folk circle dances) late into the night 2.
Trumpet music is a core part of Serbian rural culture, often played at life events. Guča has been hosting trumpet contests officially since around the 1960s; locals note that Prince Miloš himself organized the first band here in 1831 1. The modern festival grew from small village gatherings into a national phenomenon. It is seen as both a celebration of Dragačevo’s heritage and Serbia’s rural musical identity. Visitors wear folk costumes and drink homemade brandy and beer as part of the festivities.
