A prestigious three-day folklore festival held every August in Călimănești that highlights the folk music and costume traditions of the Olt River region and beyond. It includes vocal competitions, parade of traditional costumes, and live concerts in the central park. The festival is known for launching young folk artists and preserving the diverse sub-regional dialects and dance styles along the Olt.
Started in 1968, "Cântecele Oltului" was conceived to celebrate the cultural heritage of the Olt Valley. Its route connects communities along the river (from Harghita to Teleorman) and internationally, acting as a forum for ordinary villagers’ songs and dances to strengthen regional identity. Over five decades, it has become a symbol of unity for the counties on the Olt River and a showcase of their specific dialects, costumes, and customs.
