In border village Rio de Onor, the Festa dos Reis (Held the weekend before Jan 6) features caretos and the traditional *Filandorra* dancer wandering to all homes 1. On the first day they perform morning rounds and dances; on the second day (Jan 5) the *Filandorra* (a woman-spinning character) leads the procession, symbolically spinning wool as they go. The community then gathers for a shared meal. It is a unique blend of masquerade and local legend 1.
This festival, like others in the Bragança region, ties into winter-completion rites. The Filandorra figure and masked men are understood as ancestral spirits guiding fertility and fortune, coupled to Catholic tradition (Missa do Galo, Epiphany) 1 2.
