A large 10-day municipal festival honoring Coimbra’s history and patron saint (Rainha Santa Isabel), held in early July (4–14 July 2024) 1. It includes parades, Fado and student concerts, craft fairs, historical reenactments and nightly music big-name concerts (Sara Correia headlined in 2024). Festivities span squares, university gardens and parks, celebrating the city’s Lusitanian, academic and Medieval heritage.
Coimbra has a centuries-old connection to Saint Queen Isabel. In combination with the academic traditions, the city festival (Festa de Coimbra) has grown to incorporate religious homage, student pageantry and common folk celebrations. It defines city identity by uniting different communities (church, university, local civic groups).
