Olavsfestdagene (St. Olav’s Festival) is an annual cultural festival in Trondheim held around July 29 (St. Olav’s Day). It features concerts, theatrical performances, lectures and historical reenactments related to St. Olav. The week-long event celebrates Trondheim’s medieval heritage as Norway’s old capital, attracting thousands of worshipers and culture enthusiasts to the city. 1
The festival is centered on the legacy of King Olaf II (St. Olav), Norway’s patron saint who was killed at the Battle of Stiklestad in 1030. Olavsfestdagene connects contemporary faith and arts: many events take place in or near Nidaros Cathedral (built over St. Olav’s burial site) and explore themes of human rights and values, reflecting on Norway’s Christian history and national identity.
