An annual neighborhood lantern parade in Amsterdam’s Indische Buurt on St. Martin’s Day (November 11). Organized by Stichting Pretvormer since 2011 1, it gathers thousands of children, families and residents at Ambonplein to march through local streets with homemade lanterns, music, and light sculptures, culminating in a public light show.
Originally a small community initiative, Super Sint Maarten was inspired by the Saint Martin tradition of sharing and light. The event promotes arts and inclusion, involving workshops to create lanterns and costumes by residents (including socially vulnerable groups) 1. It reflects Amsterdam’s multicultural community spirit and post-Halloween celebration of charity rather than trick-or-treating.
