A week-long regional festival in mid-September where multiple towns and villages in Southwest Friesland (Waterland van Fryslân) simultaneously host cultural events to launch the new cultural season 1 2. The festival features open-air concerts, theater, street performances, workshops and local art exhibitions scattered across towns like Sneek, Workum and others, turning the region into a "mini festival circuit" for four days. It is organized by local cultural centers and aims to showcase community arts and engage residents in creative activities 1 2.
Created by regional cultural councils, the UITfestival brings together arts associations, choirs, and youth performers across many villages. It reflects modern Frisian community culture by involving local volunteers and amateurs. In 2024 it inaugurated a new format of decentralized celebrations rather than a single location 1.
