Oerol is an annual 10-day site-specific arts festival on the island of Terschelling, founded in 1981 1. It features theater, music, dance and visual installations set across dunes, forests and coastal spots, transforming the island into a stage. The festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors and is renowned for its creative celebration of nature and Frisian culture.
Initially a local initiative, Oerol has become internationally acclaimed. It engages the island community by blending local history and folklore into modern performances. Oerol reflects Terschelling’s island heritage and a progressive Frisian art scene.
