An annual street theatre festival transforming Deventer’s historic city center into stages for performers from around the world 1. Over three days in July, it features hundreds of free outdoor performances (clowning, acrobatics, dance, puppetry) as well as some ticketed shows. The city comes alive with a festive atmosphere, street acts and circus arts.
Started in 1993, this festival highlights Deventer’s commitment to (outdoor) arts and culture. It is part of Deventer’s identity as a ‘city of stories’ and reflects a Dutch tradition of kotaert (street theatre). The festival integrates local venues (squares, parks, churches) and is organized by the city arts council and volunteers.
