Zaube Wild Food Festival celebrates foraging and traditional wild cuisine in the village of Zaube. Local hunters, chefs and nature enthusiasts gather annually to prepare dishes from game, berries, mushrooms and herbs. Demonstrations include open-air cooking (such as spit-roasting a wild boar), masterclasses in wild ingredient preparation, and contests of pickling ‘Autumn Rhythms in a Jar’ 1 2. Visitors experience an authentic countryside feast and learn about the region's foraging traditions and respect for nature.
The festival honors the intangible cultural heritage of rural Vidzeme: knowledge of hunting, gathering, herbal teas, pickling and game meat preparation passed down in Zaube’s local community 1 2.
