An annual candlelight procession in Jūrmala on 18 November, the anniversary of Latvia’s independence. Local residents light thousands of candles along the main roads (from Lielupe to Ķemeri and on Jomas Street) to create a continuous "way of light" through the city, honoring Latvia’s founding. The event began in 2002 by an initiative of city artists 1 and draws entire families and community members to participate each year. Traditional concerts and a fireworks finale accompany the candle path 2 1.
This event celebrates the Republic of Latvia’s Proclamation Day. Tanzahrt Jūrmala’s peaceful candlelight procession reflects Latvian national pride and unity. Lighting candles in public on 18 November has become part of the independence commemoration in Latvia 1 2.
