A grand regional choral and folk festival celebrating Latgalian song traditions. The 15th Latgale Song Festival was held on 1 June 2025 at the Stropu open-air stage in Daugavpils with over 3,600 singers from across Latgale and Latvia 1. It features large massed choir and dance performances culminating in a big concert, preserving a legacy that began with the first Latgale festival in Rēzekne in 1925 2.
Latgale has a strong tradition of song festivals. The Latgale Song Festival, often aligned with major anniversaries, embodies this heritage. Lyrics from Latgalian folk songs and arrangements are central to the program. The festival connects to broader Latvian Song and Dance traditions, while focusing on local Latgalian identity (e.g. choirs from Latgalian communities) 1.
