Prienų krašto šventė is a multi-day community festival in Prienai, typically held in mid-May. Organized by the Prienai Culture and Leisure Center, it features cultural exhibits, patriotic ceremonies, family activities, and entertainment. The 2024 program included an exhibition on a local WWII partisan (Juozas Lukša), NATO flag-raising with military orchestra, family charity events, and sports and arts in villages 1. The highlight was often the closing concert or celebration (e.g. a county tournament or a big music event) bringing residents together for civic pride. This festival showcases Prienai district heritage (e.g. honoring war heroes, local cuisine, crafts and youth performances) and provides young locals opportunities to participate in cultural projects.
The event emphasizes local identity in the Suvalkija region by highlighting Prienai’s history and traditions. It coincides with national celebrations (NATO and EU anniversaries in 2024) and regional pride. Involving schools, community organizations, and war veterans links contemporary community to its Lithuanian patriotic past. It fosters unity among residents of village communities (Skriaudžiai, Šilavotas, Jiezno, etc.) through sports, arts, and charitable fundraisers 1.
