The Lithuanian Song Celebration is a grand national song and dance festival held every four years. It brings together tens of thousands of choir singers and folk dancers (including Lithuania’s global diaspora) across Vilnius (notably at Vingis Park and Cathedral Square) 1. It is widely regarded as Lithuania’s largest cultural event and is inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list 2.
Rooted in the early 20th-century national movement, the Song Celebration tradition began with the first official festival in Kaunas in 1924 1 2. It continued during the Soviet era and was revived in independent Lithuania, preserving folk music and dance as symbols of national identity.
