Uyeasound Up Helly Aa is a Shetland fire festival held on Unst, with roots back to 1911 1. In early February each year, the community gathers at Uyeasound Hall for teas, then after dusk a torchlit Viking procession marches to Shalder Taing on the shore. A replica Viking boat is then burned, followed by dances and performances back at the hall 2.
An engaging community event celebrating Norse heritage and marking the end of Yule, central to Unst’s local traditions.
