Åland Organ Festival is an annual classical music festival held in late June among Åland’s churches 1. In its 50th edition (2025) it featured concerts in seven historic churches, including solo organ recitals, chamber music and an orchestral finale with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra 1. The festival highlights the archipelago’s rich organ music tradition. Concerts are often free admission and are held in atmospheric church settings, attracting classical music enthusiasts from Åland and neighboring regions.
This festival underscores Åland’s identity as a nexus of Nordic musical heritage. Åland has many historic church organs, and since 1975, organists worldwide gather here annually to perform. The festival promotes appreciation of classical and sacred music within the community and educates younger generations (children’s organ storytelling events are included). It is the longest-running arts festival on Åland, reflecting a strong local commitment to cultural preservation.
