Temps de Flors is Girona’s signature spring flower festival, when historic courtyards, monuments and streets in the Barri Vell (Old Quarter) are adorned with large floral art installations and gardens for over a week. Locals and visitors wander through the decorated spaces, enjoying botanical artistry integrated into the city’s heritage architecture. The festival spans 9 days and includes free exhibitions of flower arrangements as well as concerts and related arts activities. It highlights Girona’s identity as a cultural hub and its tradition of springtime celebration.

Evolving since the mid-20th century, Temps de Flors coincides with Catalonia’s general celebration of spring and plants. It brings together neighborhood societies, florists, and artists to beautify public and private venues. The event also integrates gastronomy (special flower-infused dishes) and performances. It reflects the community’s pride in Girona’s medieval heart, combining nature with local architecture, and engages civic groups year-round to prepare elaborate flower displays, sustaining a genuine local tradition albeit now popular with tourists.
