The Feria de Albacete is a grand annual city fair held September 7–17 each year. Originating in 1710 as a livestock and goods market, it has grown into an 11-day cultural celebration attracting up to 3 million people. The fairgrounds (Recinto "La Sartén") host exhibitions, bullfights, concerts and a giant amusement park. In the days around it, Albacete explodes with music, open-air dining, folkloric dances and nightly fireworks. The festivities begin with a pre-fair Cavalcade and welcome of the Virgin of Los Llanos, the city’s patroness 1.
This fair reflects Albacete’s historical role as a regional commercial crossroads. Traditional Manchego culture is on display: many men and women wear red petticoats and decorative shawls, and the city shows its hospitality. The fair blends modern entertainment with persistent local customs (e.g. the flower battle, an alborada), symbolizing the identity of Albacete’s populace and the region’s agricultural roots.
