Moros y Cristianos de Alagón is a unique quintennial parade celebrating the historic Moors vs. Christians conflicts of Medieval Spain, staged in the town of Alagón (Zaragoza) every five years. Participants in elaborate historical costumes reenact Marcha and drum-led parades honoring the Virgen del Castillo, with Moorish banners and Christian crosses. The parade along Calle Corona de Aragón, Carrera de Caballos, and the town square is a colorful spectacle that draws attendees from the region seeking a rare display of this tradition in Aragon.
Although Moors and Christians festivals are common in eastern Spain, Alagón’s is notable as the only such procession in Aragon. It originated in 1965, partly to honor the Virgin of the Castle and foster ties with Sax (Valencia), Alagón’s sister city. The event highlights local devotion and creativity, with townspeople worshipping under the Virgin and celebrating medieval history. It reflects Alagón’s identity as a borderland between cultures, combining religious devotion with vivid pageantry.
