Emajõe Festival is a one-day summer festival celebrating the Emajõgi river (the 'Mother River' flowing through Tartu County). It features river-themed concerts and a boat parade of hundreds of decorated boats on the Emajõgi 1. Cultural programs include folk singing and poetry floats. Held annually on or around 12 July (2024 and 2025), it highlights the river’s importance to local identity and brings together residents of villages along its banks.
The festival emphasizes the central role of the Emajõgi in regional life. It combines Tartu’s river culture (folk songs, boat races, river rituals) with participating lakeside villages. By cooperating with the broader Sisevete festival, it bridges the lakes and river cultures of South Estonia 1.
