Annual main guild day of the Neuwerker Scheiben-Schützen-Gilde (Target Shooting Guild) in Rendsburg 1 2. Dating to 1692 2, this centuries-old tradition provides cultural insight into Rendsburg’s citizens’ associations. On the designated Monday after Pentecost, guild members gather and parade through the city. The Mayor formally greets the guild at the old town hall balcony 1, followed by a procession that culminates in a traditional musical tattoo (Zapfenstreich) on the Schlossplatz 3. Visitors observe the band and honor guard ceremonies in historic uniform.
The Neuwerker Scheiben-Schützen-Gilde is Rendsburg’s oldest free citizens’ association, formed in 1692 alongside the Neuwerk district settlement 1. Its Hauptgildetag continues the guild’s role as a symbol of civic identity and solidarity. The annual ritual of escorting the Mayor and performing a shooting salute reflects the city’s 17th-century heritage and longstanding militia traditions 2.
