The Landshuter Hochzeit is a grand historical pageant held every four years in Landshut, reenacting the medieval wedding of 1475 between Duke Georg of Bavaria-Landshut and Princess Hedwig of Poland. Tens of thousands of participants in authentic period costumes parade through the city. It is reputedly Europe’s largest medieval festival and embodies local pride in Bavarian history 1.
Rooted in a historic event from 1475, the festival is deeply tied to Landshut’s identity. Locals spend the year preparing costumes and floats. It has been declared German cultural heritage and is organized by the 'Förderer' association for preservation of Bavarian customs 1.
