The Tirage is a traditional marksmanship and folk fair in Payerne, Vaud. Established in 1736 by the local shooting society 1, it features four days of target shooting competitions on manual Vernex ranges, carnival rides, music and food stalls 2. On the final Saturday, over 500 shooters from Payerne and beyond compete for honors. The festivities reflect Jura-Vaud rural culture and camaraderie, blending martial heritage with communal amusement.
Rooted in Swiss guild tradition, the Tirage was founded to improve marksmanship and fellowship. It has since become an annual rite in Payerne demonstrating civic pride and rural entertainment. The festival gatherings create bonds among villagers (‘we finally meet to shoot and drink in friendship’ 1.
