The Ros Beiaardommegang is a grand tri-decennial (every 10 years) procession in Dendermonde centered on the legendary Horse of Bayard. Featuring a giant wooden horse carried by four young riders (the ‘Vier Heemskinderen’), this pageant includes elaborate floats, horseback displays, and historical reenactments within the medieval city 1. Approximately 2,000 participants and 20 floats make it a spectacular open-air drama. It is protected as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Flanders 1 2.
This parade reflects Dendermonde's medieval heritage and local legend of the Bayard horse. It reinforces community identity with deep roots in tournaments and pageantry, celebrated across generations.
