Posavsko kolo is an annual international folklore festival held in Odžak (Posavina Canton) that celebrates the cultural heritage of the Posavina region 1 2. Dozens of traditional dance and music ensembles (KUDs) from Bosnia and Croatia parade through the town and perform folk dances at the main square on the Feast of the Assumption (August 15). Organized by the HKD Napredak cultural society, the event features processions in traditional costume, a folklore stage program, music concerts and fireworks 1 2. It is a community-focused celebration: locals attend in large numbers wearing regional costumes, and visitors experience authentic Posavina song, dance and dress as the festival unfolds under the church-lit evening sky on the town plaza.
The festival is tied to the Catholic Feast of the Assumption (Velika Gospa) on August 15, becoming the highlight of Odžak’s summer. It was initiated in the early 2000s to revive and promote local folk traditions after the war. The Posavina region has a shared cultural identity across the Sava River valley, and Posavsko kolo draws on this cross-border heritage. HKD Napredak, the local Croatian cultural society, has sponsored the event to strengthen community ties and regional pride. Each year the parade and dances underscore the importance of Posavina’s rural customs and history in an otherwise modernizing context. 1 2
